Communications Experts: the value of sharing in the Age of Attraction

So here we all are Q2 09, and as a freelancer myself, there has definitely been a pinch. I guess we are all wondering the same thing – when is this going to start bouncing back?

The big media are all promising that things are looking up – Wall Street even reported its best month in 9 years. But where does that leave the rest of us? Twiddling our thumbs until the good news trickles down?

Most definitely not.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll be out there hunting for the best projects you can be working on – those that will help get this derailed year back on the tracks and moving toward success – full steam ahead!

For journalists and communications experts in the attraction economy, it’s all about building relationships, getting to the heart of the story and then sharing what we know to be good and true.

But how does that help you?

Well, look at what the top experts are saying about the new Attraction Economy, Social Marketing and well, pretty much any darned online business you can think of.

It’s all about engagement – the old modes of simply shouting at people are over. Think how annoying TV ads are. Most people hate them because they are intrusive and irrelevant to the vast majority of people watching them. TV advertising is considered to be highly effective and have great ROI if it generates just a 3% response rate.

The other 97% of viewers subjected to its unwanted message?
Well, it is not hard to see why the vast majority of people have moved online to escape that sort of treatment.

Marketing online just can’t be done like that. Opt in, hatred of spam, hatred of intrusive marketing techniques of any sort will mean your audience will simply tune you out or shift to another location where you can’t reach them.

Today’s marketing is about network, it’s about relationships and it’s about sharing value. Do you think the old school marketers are interested in sharing value? No way!

To show you what I mean, here’s a video of an interview with David Meerman Scott, bestselling author of The New Rules of Marketing & PR, reveals his radical ideas about creating content – including getting rid of those marketers and replacing them with people who understand communications:

As a journalist, I’ve really taken this idea to heart, because it’s time for those old school marketers to make way for the communicators. This is the Age of Attraction where the shared story reigns supreme!

To deliver those stories, I’m hunting out the best content that I can, and then looking to share it with people in my networks to help them – no matter what kind of business they are in – to make sure 09 is another successful year!

To see the kinds of stories I’m following, be sure to keep tabs on this blog. I’m also on the major social networks, so if you’re reading this and we're not already connected, then make sure to get in touch:
